India’s climate range — from dry, arid summers in parts of the north to intense humidity along the coasts and during monsoon — means a single year-round skincare routine rarely serves everyone well, and often doesn’t even serve one person well across their own year.
In high heat and humidity: Oil production tends to increase, sweat mixes with sunscreen and makeup to clog pores more easily, and heavier creams can feel uncomfortably occlusive. Lighter, gel-based moisturizers, more frequent (but still gentle) cleansing, and sunscreen reapplication become more important, not less — UV exposure is often just as strong, and sweat degrades sunscreen faster.
In dry heat or air-conditioned environments: Skin loses moisture faster than usual, which can show up as tightness, flaking or a dull texture even in people who normally lean oily. Richer moisturizers, humectant-based serums (hyaluronic acid, glycerin) applied to damp skin, and dialing back potentially drying actives like strong exfoliants can help.
During monsoon: High humidity plus frequent rain exposure creates conditions favourable to fungal scalp and skin issues, and products can feel like they’re “not absorbing” in the ambient moisture. Lighter textures and being attentive to scalp health (see the dandruff piece on this site) matter more in this window.
The practical takeaway isn’t a rigid seasonal product list — it’s paying attention to how your skin is actually behaving right now rather than sticking to the same formula regardless of the weather outside. If a product that worked well for months suddenly feels wrong, checking whether the season changed before blaming the product is often the faster diagnosis.
